About this room
What this is
Presence is a quiet shared room for people who practice meditation with Tergar. Press Begin and a soft amber light appears for everyone who has this page open. Press End when you finish and your light fades. There are no names, no chat, and no counts. You get a sense that others are sitting alongside you, without seeing who they are.
Most of us practice alone, at odd hours and in different places. The room is a way to know, for a while, that others are sitting too.
How to sit
- Press Begin. Your light fades in over about 25 seconds.
- Keep your screen on. Face down or dimmed is fine.
- If your phone locks, your light stays lit for four minutes. Come back within that time and it stays on. After four minutes it fades, and you can press Begin again.
- When you’re finished, press End.
There’s no set length. Sit as long as suits you. After two hours, your sit ends on its own, with a bell.
Sound
Sound is off until you tap or click the page. Pressing Begin or tapping the speaker icon turns it on, and your choice is remembered on this device.
The room sounds a gong at the top of every hour, UTC (Coordinated Universal Time, the same everywhere). Check a world clock for your local time. When you press End, a soft bell plays on your own device only.
On iPhone, newer versions of iOS play sound through the silent switch. Older versions may stay silent.
Privacy
You don’t need an account, a name, or a profile to sit. Nothing in the room asks who you are.
When you sit, the room records when you started and when you left, under an anonymous device code. The code comes from a random ID saved in your browser, and the room keeps only a scrambled version of it. This lets us see how many people are sitting at a given time. Sit records are deleted after 12 months.
Other people see only lights. They can’t see who anyone is, where they are, or other personal information behind each light. This is by design.
The room never saves your network address. It’s used only briefly, to guard against misuse, and then forgotten.
After a sit, a short feedback form may open. Answering is optional. Your answers are stored without your device code or network address, and the time is rounded to the hour. They aren’t linked to your sit or device. The form has an optional email field: fill it in only if you’d like a reply or are willing to answer a follow-up question, and it’s used only to reply to you. Feedback is deleted after 12 months, like sit records.
